The Society of Toxicology, India
- (generally known as the Indian Society of Toxicology) or in short STOX was formed to facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and knowledge among scientists, practitioners and policy makers working in different research and development areas of environment and occupational health or related areas of toxicology. The Society was founded by Prof P.K. Gupta in the year 1979 at Lucknow. The Society is a founder member of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) since 1980.
News Flash!
The American Board of Toxicology (ABT) has agreed to send two board members to India prior to any firm commitment in order to determine the suitability of the venue proposed. If it was determined that the proposed site (Bangalore) would be suitable, ABT would then proceed to offer the exam on a time and date compatible with existing organization policy. When the exam is given, those applying would be subject to the same eligibility determination as candidates in the US (including fees), and the same arrangement for travel would hold.
I quote ABT Board member who wrote in an e-mail to Dr. Rao: “Let me emphasize that we are committed to offering the exam in India, and look forward to working with you to make this possible. As we stated at the SOT meeting, we also have a responsibility to our Diplomates to insure both the integrity of the examination”.
The exact timing of visit of ABT Board members is being worked up. If the ABT decides to hold the exam, the first exam will be in Bangalore in October 2009.
STOX is happy to announce the arrangement of Diplomate of American Board of Toxicology Examination in Bangalore in October 2009. For further information contact Dr.K.S.Rao

First of all let me convey our sincere thanks for the quick response and whole hearted support to Dr Rakesh YashRoy (circular/ appeal issued during the first quarter of year 2004 by executive secretary of STOX) for payment of Rs 300/- as one time contribution towards lifetime membership fee) in order to meet the increasing cost of publication and decreasing bank interest rates. After the dead line several members approached the Society for extension of date. At the request of members, the Society in its last meeting held in October 2007 in Bangalore decided as under:
Initially when a person became a life member they paid variable amount based on the then current Life Membership fees. However, recently the executive committee has decided to raise the Life Membership fees to Rs 2000/-.
In order for you to be Current Life Member of good standing (except those whose names appear in the list of members of good standing) you need to pay an additional Rs. 800/- to the STOX. To make it easier for payment STOX requests that you simply deposit/pay Rs. 800/- directly to the following STOX account.
