ASAW / STOX "Surajben Jethalal Thaker Prakruti Mandir Gold Medals" (two)
for Enhancement of Animal Welfare
The enhancement of animal welfare awards are presented annually to two scientists in recognition of their contribution to the advancement of animal welfare through the development and application of methods that replace, refine, or reduce the need for experimental animals. The award recognizes outstanding / significant contributions or alternative procedures that reduce the number of animals required in experimentations.
Each award consists of a certificate, some travel grant and a Gold Medal.
The awards will be named as “AScAW / STOX Surajben Jethalal Thaker Prakruti Mandir Gold medal” to recognize individuals for i) significant contributions to alternative procedures that reduce the number of animals used in experiments of research and ii) for procedures to reduce the cruelty to animals, to service rendered for the prevention of cruelty to animals and to restore the health of animals experimented upon.
Criteria for selection:

Brief statement describing as to how the ends were achieved in respect of first and second objectives are to be submitted by the prospective candidates along with curriculum vitae including e-mail address or fax number.

Recommendations from any scientific society, or from fellows of Academy of Sciences for Animal Welfare or from Fellows of the Society of Toxicology, India or from the National Institutes or Universities may also be submitted with the application for the award.
Please note: There is no specific format for the application. Statement, biodata and a paragraph indicating how the goals were achieved along with 4 copies of abstracts of 250 words and two passport size photographs should be submitted not later than 31st July 2006 at the following address.
