STOX

The Society of Toxicology, India - (generally known as the Indian Society of Toxicology) or STOX, for short, was formed to facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and knowledge among scientists, practitioners and policy makers working in different research and development areas of environment and occupational health or related areas of toxicology.

The Society was founded by Prof P.K. Gupta in the year 1979 at Lucknow. The Society is a founder member of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) since 1980.

Prof P K Gupta Distinguished Scientist Lifetime Achievement Award in Toxicology

The Award will be given annually beginning from the year 2009/2010 at its Annual Conference in recognition of the ontributions made for the advancement of Toxicology.

Travel Awards to Attend the 2009 7th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (7CTDC) in Sun City, South Africa

For STOX members only!TOXSA and IUTOX announce the availability of fellowship awards to attend the 7th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries. The meeting will be held in Sun City, South Africa on September 6-10, 2009.

The awardees may be either junior or senior scientists from a country where toxicology is underrepresented and have an active research program or currently be active in the practice of toxicology. Read more » »

We are happy to announce that Dr. P.V. Mohanan, Secretary General of STOX, India (Scientist and Head, Toxicology Division, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, BMT Wing, Thiruvananthapuram 12, Kerala, Govt. of India) is authorized as a Certified Biological Safety Specialist by NAMSA, USA at a certification course held at Zurich, Switzerland.

A life time opportunity for Toxicologists from Asia

The American Board of Toxicology (ABT), Inc. is pleased to announce that the October 2009 examination will be offered in Bangalore, India. This is in addition to being offered in Edinburgh, Scotland, and two locations in the United States, Sunnyvale, California, and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. This will provide an opportunity for toxicologists in Asia to come to India to take the examination rather than going to the US or UK.

The exam dates are October 9-10, 2009. Applications must be postmarked by April 30, 2009, with supporting documentation postmarked by May 31, 2009. For more information, please visit the ABT Web site.

Appeal for co-operation to help your Society grow

First of all let me convey our sincere thanks for the quick response and whole hearted support to Dr Rakesh YashRoy (circular/ appeal issued during the first quarter of year 2004 by executive secretary of STOX) for payment of Rs 300/- as one time contribution towards lifetime membership fee) in order to meet the increasing cost of publication and decreasing bank interest rates.
